Globe Telecom Lays Submarine Cable to...

Globe Telecom has established a fiber optic interconnection to Borcay Island through the Boracay Submarine Cable System, a two-kilometer fiber optic cable that transmits "80 wavelengths of Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing or DWDM systems with a capacity of 40 gigabytes per second (GBPS) per wavelength and is expandable to 100 GBPS,” it said in a news release.


This can provide “near to limitless transmission capacity, which will result [in] crystal-clear voice call and superfast surfing,” said Globe chief technical adviser Robert Tan.

Power transmission cable maker General Cable Corp. (BGC) reported Monday a profit for the third quarter that soared from last year, reflecting strong performance of the ROW segment. Adjusted earnings per share missed analysts' expectations, while quarterly revenues topped their estimates by a whisker. The company also issued earnings and revenue forecast for the fourth quarter, well below Street view.

According to the China Iron and Steel Association, end of October 2012, inventory of the main finished steel products (plate, hot rolled coil, cold rolled coil, rebar and wire rod) in 26 major steel markets in China totaled 12.43 million tonnes, down by 274,000 tonnes as compared to the previous week and indicating a week on week decline for three straight weeks after the National Day holiday.


Meanwhile, China's total finished steel inventory on the date in question was down 1.90 million tonnes YoY, reaching the lowest level since 2010.

Aker Solutions has been selected to supply two production control umbilicals and three umbilical termination assemblies (UTAs) to Murphy Exploration & Production Company - USA. The products will be delivered to the Murphy operated Dalmatian field in the De Soto Canyon located in the Gulf of Mexico which is jointly owned by Murphy and Ecopetrol America Inc. Contract value is undisclosed.

Inventories of steel and iron ore have decreased since the beginning of September. The price of steel wire rod futures has increased by 10 percent, but the market is still far from a turning point.



Latest figures show that up to Oct. 19, inventories of iron ore at 30 major ports are 90.01 million tons, down 0.76 million tons compared to last week, reaching the lowest since the beginning of this year and down by 2.21 million tons compared with the same period last year.
