Habia Cable Secures New Nuclear Contr...

Habia Cable, the Swedish high-end cable manufacturer, is maintaining its leading position in the Korean nuclear market with another new contract. The company recently signed a contract with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power (KHNP) to supply nuclear safety grade cables to the new Shin-Ulchin 1&2 (APR 1400) nuclear power plants on the Korean east coast. Deliveries are planned to take place through an 18-month period starting 2014.


Habiatron Q class cables have been installed in all new nuclear power plants built in Korea since the construction of Younggwang 5&6 in the late 1990s, a total of approximately ten installations.

ESAB Welding and Cutting Products opened a new manufacturing facility in Union County, South Carolina on Wednesday, June 20. The 260,000 square-foot plant on Midway Drive is ESAB’s state-of-the-art production site for the manufacture of welding wires.



Daniel Young of the South Carolina Department of Commerce, state and local lawmakers, and Union County dignitaries were on hand to celebrate the opening, which brings 101 new jobs to South Carolina.

The European Union's steel industry may need to shut three quarters of its capacity in the next two decades because of declining demand, rising costs and cheap imports, a European sector chief reported.  "It is foreseeable in the next 10, 15, 20 years, at least for normal grade steel, that production in Europe will not be competitive any more," Wolfgang Eder, president of European steel industry announced.

South Korean steel producer Dongkuk Steel announced that it has started test runs at its new rebar mill at its Incheon plant.


Construction started on the new rebar mill in April 2011 with a budget of KRW 190 billion. The designed annual output is 1.2 million tonnes. The start up of commercial production is scheduled for September 2012.


The new mill will produce extra high-tensile rebars (SD800) and vibration-resistant rebars (KS D3688) up to 57 mm diameter.


The mill is equipped with a 40 meters water cooling system to maximize output of high tensile rebars. It will be able to roll 42 meters per second of 10 mm rebar, compared with the general rolling speed of 26 me ...

Downer EDI has won a $175 million Western Power contract to build a new transmission line between Pinjar and Eneabba, Australia.



The new 190km, 330 KV transmission line will form a critical part of Western Power's $443 million Mid West energy project stage 1, which will provide power needs to the emerging mining region.

The Malaysian government will initiate a preliminary investigation on the import of steel wire rods from five countries, Chinese Taipei, China, Indonesia, South Korea and Turkey. "The government has determined that there was sufficient evidence of dumping, injury and a causal link," the Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) said in a statement.

Gebauer & Griller Kabeltechnik, an Austrian cable assembly manufacturer, is expanding and has plans to create 250 new jobs in 2012. The expansion is due to a 25% increase in production at its site in Mikulov, Czech Republic.



The plant currently employs 950 people and focuses on the production of cables, wires, and battery harnesses for the automotive industry. In February, the company founded the subsidiary GG Cables & Wires EE in order to expand activities in Moldova.
