Nexans in Deal to Supply 53km of Cabl...

Westermost Rough Ltd, London, and Nexans recently signed an agreement for the delivery and assembly of medium-voltage submarine cables for the Westermost Rough wind farm, which is to be built eight kilometres off the Holderness coast in Yorkshire. The order encompasses around 53 kilometres of submarine cables.


These will be used for connecting the individual wind turbines to each other and to the transformer platform. In addition, a further two kilometres of cable will be delivered for the internal platform cabling. Delivery is scheduled to begin in spring 2013.

Support grows for WAI’s Interwire 2013

The Wire Association International (WAI), Inc. reports that of the 106,000 sq. ft. of available exhibition space, all but 10 booths have been sold in anticipation of Interwire 2013 and WAI’s 83rd Annual Convention at the Georgia World Congress Center (GWCC), Atlanta, Georgia, USA.


Interwire’s exhibit floor will feature 400 exhibiting companies, 15% of which are new to the show. More than 150 wire, supply, and equipment categories will be shown. The exhibits footprint will include three international pavilions: Austria, China, and Italy. Visitors can expect running equipment and live production solutions demonstrations.

Japan Copper and Cable Shipments Drop...

Japan’s copper wire and cable shipments declined 2.7% in January decreasing for a second month as demand from the auto, electric machinery and export industries slowed.

The Japanese Electric Wire & Cable Makers’ Association said that ahipments totaled 54,500 tonnes last month compared with 56,002 tonnes a year earlier. Deliveries were 56,733 tonnes in December down 3.4% from a year earlier.

Copper in London has declined 1.8% in the past year. Japan’s trade deficit swelled to a record JPY 1.63 trillion on energy imports and a weaker yen highlighting one cost of Prime Minister Mr Shinzo Abe’s policies that are driving down the currency.

Three New Zealand telecommunications companies say they plan to jointly build a new $60 million fiber-optic cable connecting New Zealand with Australia.


Telecom, Vodafone and Telstra announced Tuesday they hope to complete the undersea Internet-powering cable by the end of next year. They say its capacity of 30 terabits per second is about 300 times New Zealand's data needs. The companies say it will improve the country's notoriously slow Internet speed and boost the economy.
