Japan’s copper wire and cable shipments climbed 2.1% in May 2013 from a year earlier increasing for the first time in 6 months on a pick up in deliveries to construction companies.The Japanese Electric Wire & Cable Makers’ Association said that an industry group said that shipments totaled 54,200 tonnes last month compared with 53,067 tonnes a year earlier. During April 2013, nkt cables completed a submarine cable with a continuous length of 31km for use on the West of Duddon Sands (WoDS) offshore windfarm project in the UK. The project is a joint venture between Dong Energy and Scottish Power Renewables. The new windfarm, located off the coast of Cumbria and Lancashire in North West England, will have a capacity of 389 MW when completed, and the power will be exported to the shore via submarine export cables supplied by nkt cables. CANDOR Sweden AB has developed it's high speed copper coating plant concept with modular design to suit each customers need, as well as to make possible very high speeds. The plant standard design is made for 15-20 m/s but a high end version allows wire speed up to 25-30 m/s directly in-line with wire drawing. The plant can be equipped with either CANDOJET hot water cleaning unit or electrolytic pickling or even both as in picture.

The CANDOR developed INHIBITOR E1 further enhances the copper coating for high quality wires.

China companies turning out fiber-optic cables embark on expansion projects to meet the requirements of a dynamic networking environment, and build up the industry’s upstream segment. The latter objective constitutes the sector’s bid for self-sufficiency to reduce dependence on overseas suppliers for key material preform. At present, most China enterprises source the input from Corning and Furukawa.

Major local player Jiangsu Zhongtian invested $160 million to raise its manufacturing capability to more than 30 million core kilometers. It also allocated $190 million for preform development, which will be able to handle about 400 tons.

Sarawak Cable has clinched a RM32.87 million project to establish electricity transmission line in Miri, Sarawak.

In a statement to the exchange, Sarawak Cable which produces power cables, said it has received the letter of acceptance from Sarawak Energy Bhd for the Tudan-Miri Airport 132kV transmission line project.

"The project is expected to contribute positively to the earnings and net assets of Sarawak Cable group for the financial years ending December 31, 2013 and December 31, 2014.

Nexans, a worldwide expert in the cable industry, has just signed a 36 million euro frame contract with Infrabel, the Belgian railway operator, to supply 1 kV power distribution cables for network refurbishment projects over the next two years.

“We are very proud that, following a Europe-wide tender process, Infrabel has awarded Nexans the contract to supply most of its 1 kV power distribution cables for the next two years. Lamnea Bruk launches our new 5 kg fully automatic precision layer winder machine. This new machines has the capacity to make 1 spool/minute, in a speed of 25 m/s.

The machine line contains of a horizontal payoff, a dancer arm system and the automatic precision layer winder.

The machine works as once the payoff has been loaded and the wire lazed up the machine line will precision coil the wire onto spools automatically until the payoff spool is empty with no operator attending the machine.
