Nexans’ Refitted Cable Ship Sets Sail...

REE, Red Eléctrica de España, which operates the Spanish power system and owns the power grid,  ordered the 90 million Euro cable link between Ibiza and Mallorca for the latest phase in a project to link the Balearic Islands to the mainland grid on the Iberian Peninsular. This will provide the islands with a more reliable, energy efficient and lower emission power supply.

The 119 km cable, designed, manufactured and installed by Nexans features state-of-the-art XLPE insulation. It’s reported the US Department of Commerce set preliminary duties on imports of carbon and alloy steel wire rod from China. The duties were set at 110.25% and some companies will have lower duty rate at 106.19%. In 2013, the imports of hot rolled carbon steel and alloy steel rod from China totaled USD 313 million. The final decision will be finalized by November 12th 2014.

RSCC Nuclear Cable (RSCC) announced today that it has completed delivery of safety-related replacement cables (class 1E) for the Shin Kori Unit 3 nuclear power plant as part of a nearly $13 million award by Korea Hydro Nuclear Power (KHNP). RSCC was competitively selected to replace cables at two APR-1400 reactors in November 2013 and now marks the cable industry’s first installation of 60-year qualified nuclear cables anywhere in the world.
