Hyundai Orders Continuous Bloom Caste...

For a new special steel mill in Dangjin, the Korean steel maker Hyundai Steel has placed an order with Siemens Metals Technologies for a continuous bloom casting machine, a large bar rolling mill and a small bar and wire rod mill. Commissioning of the plants is scheduled for the end of 2015. Hyundai Steel, situated in Incheon and Seoul, South Korea, belongs to the Hyundai Kia Automotive Group and runs three production facilities in South Korea and a further one in China. At present, the company is constructing a new plant at the Dangjin site to produce special steels for the automotive industry. Philatron Wire and Cable is displaying its new corrosion-proof Stallion ABS power cable and coiled Alaskan Stallion air hoses at its booth at the Mid-America Trucking Show.

The Stallion coiled ABS power cable is a nearly indestructible cabling system that has been designed without the common weaknesses of metal, nylon and plastic, Philatron said. The Stallion uses its own patented Xenoy plugs rather than metal plugs. The polycarbonate plugs outperform metallics, are connected with tensile strength of 480 lbs. and are guaranteed not to corrode or freeze to sockets.

The world’s largest ever DEH systems contract forms part of Nexans’ 10-year global frame agreement with BP to supply cables and umbilical systems for deep-water projects.

Nexans’ Direct Electrical Heating (DEH) cable systems will be installed to help in maintaining the reliable flow of products from the Shah Deniz  field, located in the Azerbaijan sector of the Caspian Sea. The world’s largest DEH project to date will see Nexans deliver a total of 130 km of the cable system to provide flow assurance for 10 subsea flow lines. The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation ( ENEC) has announced that the first consignment of locally-produced non-class 1E cable has been delivered to the UAE's nuclear plants under construction in Barakah.

Shanxi Gaoyi Steel has successfully commissioned two wire rod mills from SMS Meer of Germany. The lines were installed in the Xinjiang District, Shanxi Province, China. Despite the high capacity, the wire rod mills require a minimum of space. With the two single strand lines, Shanxi Gaoyi can produce up to 1.5 million tonnes of wire rod per year. The Scioto Ridge Wind Farm Approved

The Scioto Ridge Wind Farm in Hardin and Logan counties will be capable of generating 300 megawatts of electricity and will include up to 60 miles of access roads, 83 miles of underground electric collection lines and four meteorological towers.

The farm could power up to 83,000 homes.  The Ohio Power Siting Board on Monday authorized Hardin Wind, LLC, a subsidiary of EverPower Wind Holdings, Inc., to construct the project on 17,000 acres of private land.

The siting board said the wind farm is associated with two additional projects involving the construction of a 4.8 mile long, 345 kilovolt transmission line and a 345 kilovolt substation in Hardin County.

CBI Electric African Cables, a subsidiary of JSE-listed Reunert Group, officially launched a R150-million high-voltage cable factory in Vereeniging, Gauteng province this month.

The facility, partly funded by the government, will be the first in sub-Saharan Africa to design and manufacture high-voltage cables of up to 275 kilovolts (kV) with conductor sizes of up to 2 500 square millimetres, CBI Electric managing director Alan Dickson said at the launch.
