This year was the 10th time Windak displayed at the Dusseldorf Wire show, first time being 1996.   At the same time company celebrated their 20th anniversary at the show!

The Wire show is the world’s largest trade show for the cable industry with 39 000 visitors and 1315 suppliers participating in the show. A hot metal treatment plant at Kobe Steel's Kakogawa Works in western Japan is now operational, according to the company.

The plant was constructed to improve the production system at Kakogawa in order to expand sales of high value-added steel products with a view to increasing cost competitiveness, the company said.

Hot metal treatment plants are designed to remove impurities, such as sulfur and phosphorus, from molten iron.

Kobe Steel's special steel wire rod and bar, automotive high-strength steel sheet and steel plate for the energy sector all require a high degree of cleanliness, highlighting the importance of the new hot metal treatment plant.

Karabük Demir Celik (Kardemir) from Karabük, Turkey, has placed an order with SMS Meer, Germany, for the supply of a special bar quality (SBQ) rolling mill for the production of surface-quenched and tempered rebars, straight bars, wire rod and bar in coils.

In a first stage the mill has an annual capacity of 700,000 tons, allowing for a capacity increase to 1,400,000 tons per year in a second phase. With the bar and wire rod mill from SMS Meer Kardemir produces cost-effectively even in small batches and, thus, is able to flexibly react to market demands at any time.
