The owners of Mid-South Wire bought the 190,000-square-foot former Ajax Turner Co. warehouse on Visco Drive for $3.7 million with plans to expand the steel wire manufacturer.

John T. Johnson Jr., CEO of Mid-South Wire, said the beverage distributor's former home, which sat vacant since the May 2010 flood, is ideal for the company's future expansion because it sits across the street from his company's headquarters at 1070 Visco Drive.

"We're just going to expand our current operations and add some product lines we think are opportunities for us," he said. "It made more sense to acquire this across the street to eliminate duplication of management, maintenance and transportation costs if we ...

A California-based energy company hopes to build the first transmission line directly connecting Texas to the Southeast as part of a plan to export the state's wind power to other parts of the country.

Pattern Energy Group recently won approval from the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission for the proposed 400-mile line, which the company estimates could cost $1.5 billion to $2 billion to build.

The project has the potential to expand the Texas wind energy industry by giving it access to another market via a route dubbed the Southern Cross, company officials said.

KEIR’s aerodynamic composite BackBone Bow is designed to incorporate all the positive features of an enclosed bow without any of the negatives associated with operating a totally enclosed flyer bow.  The semi-enclosed BackBone Bow gives the customer increased reliability and performance needed in today’s competitive environment.

The triaxially braided I-Beam construction has much greater durability than layered/laminated designs, allowing the BackBone to take more hits and endure higher stress.  This results in significantly increased operating life and less machine downtime.  The aerodynamic cross section equates to 18-34% lower energy consumption dependin ...

UK Power Networks is upgrading three vital high-voltage electricity circuits in the south of England with Nexans’ innovative pipe-type XLPE cables.

The new XLPE (cross-linked polyethylene) insulated pipe-type cables are replacing 132kV gas cable circuits which are due for renewal. The compact design of the cable means that they can be drawn into existing steel pipes via a series of jointing bays, minimizing road-digging and disruption for local residents.

The new pipe-type cables are ideal for high-voltage, underground systems because they can handle conductor temperatures of up to 90 degrees centigrade, need no fluid-pressure system and require no maintenance.

The first new 132 kV ...
