Precise knowledge of length and current speed is a key cost and process optimization factor in the production of sheet goods and cables. Wear and slip push material costs up, but companies today can no longer afford to produce rejects. Quality is in demand – From the outset.
The LSV 1000/2000 velocimeters from ZUMBACH ideally support manufacturers when monitoring quality in steel, cable, wire and tubing production. They exceed the performance of conventional contact-based measuring methods, at the same time offering maximum robustness with minimized maintenance requirements and costs.
The compact device provides length and velocity data quickly and reliably for both process ...

In the Middle of June, spectators gathered to watch a white French ship, Rene Descartes, sail on the waters between Largs and Cumbrae to instal millions of pounds of new cable to enhance the west coast’s broadband capacity.
BT has awarded three firms a £26.9 million contract for the ambitious subsea cabling project which will help deliver fast, fibre broadband to more parts of Scotland. Specialist vessels will lay 20 fibre optic submarine cables in a precise operation providing a fibre broadband backbone which will eventually link communities from Kintyre to Orkney. The massive engineering effort is part of the £146 million investment project launched with Highlands and I ...

Many companies producing material to be wound are familiar with this situation: Although spools of the same dimensions are used, their individual dimensions are not exactly identical. Minimal size deviations lead to an uneven winding pattern or even tangling. The result: Increased manual adjustment work – a cost item you could do without. What are the options for manufacturers to solve these problems?
The ideal solution would be an autonomous monitoring system so the operator can be sure the material is wound evenly from start to end. When searching for such a reliable monitoring and control system, you will inevitably hit the FA II Flange Detecting System manufactured by Joachim Uhi ...

OFS, a designer and manufacturer of fiber optic network products announced the launch of its completely gel-free, double jacket PowerGuide DT All-Dielectric Self-Supporting (ADSS) cable.
OFS’ PowerGuide DT cable enables faster deployment and helps lower installation costs through reduced cable preparation time, with a span length capability of up to 1,500 feet and fiber counts from two up to 288 fibers. This cable’s flexible buffer tubes allow for ease of routing and management within closures as compared to similar gel-filled cable products, but are rugged enough to pass the stringent IEEE 1222 sheave test for installation durability. The 100 percent gel-free construction may a ...
