General Cable has received a contract from Basin Electric Power Cooperative, one of the largest electric generation and transmission (G&T) cooperatives in the US, to supply overhead conductor for a new 345kV transmission line.

Federal regulators have given final approval for construction of a 330-mile electric transmission line to bring lower-cost Canadian hydroelectric power to New York City.
The Department of Energy decision dated Wednesday clears the way for the 1,000-megawatt Champlain Hudson Power Express line after some final concerns are addressed by Albany-based Transmission Developers.
The line is to run under the length of Lake Champlain, through parts of the Hudson, Harlem and East rivers and beneath railroad rights of way en route from Quebec to Con Edison in Queens.
Construction is expected to begin next year and take about four years, creating about 300 jobs and costing about $2 billion.

JDR, a provider of technology connecting the global offshore energy industry, has been awarded a contract by VBMS to provide inter-array cable for the Vattenfall AB Sandbank offshore wind farm.
Under the contract, JDR will design and develop 105km of inter-array cable, including a new coilable 630mm² copper core cable and other cable accessories.Scheduled to be constructed 90km west of Sylt Island within the exclusive economic zone off the German North Sea coast, the Sandbank offshore wind farm will feature 72x4MW turbines in water depths between 25m and 37m. Global steel and mining firm ArcelorMittal says it is supplying 50,000 tons of steel for the 11,200-MW Belo Monte hydroelectric project in Brazil.
The Luxembourg-based corporation said its ArcelorMittal Brazil unit is supplying the steel, with 30,000 tons being delivered since October 2012. The additional 20,000 tons are expected to be delivered by the end of 2017.

Corporate finance firm Park Partners has advised on the sale of Bridgehouse Marine, the parent holding company of Chelmsford-headquartered Global Marine Services, to HC2 Holdings.
Global Marine has installed approximately 300,000 km of cable over the last 30 years, representing almost a quarter of all the fibre optic cable on the seabed today.

United States producer Keystone Steel and Wire Co. placed an order with Siemens Metals Technologies to upgrade the cooling conveyors of a two-strand wire rod mill in its Bartonville, Illinois production facility. The project includes new blowers, auxiliary systems as well as electric and automation equipment. This will enable Keystone to produce steel grades with higher tensile strengths with improved and more uniform quality, thus extending their product range. The new equipment is expected to be commissioned in late 2014.

Swiss rail network operator SBB has signed a five-year framework agreement with Nexans for the supply of signalling and balise cables, as it prepares significant upgrades to cabling infrastructure across its rail network. The agreement is worth €35 million in total.
As part of the agreement Nexans will provide over 7,000km of specialised rail cables used to power signalling and balise (electronic beacon and transponder) applications. The deal is a continuation of the long working relationship between the two companies, which started over 100 years ago when Nexans provided cable for the Simplon rail tunnel that connects Switzerland and Italy through the Alps.
