Egyptian Steel Commissions New Rebar ...

Egyptian Steel has successfully commissioned a new rebar production line at its Alexandria plant in parallel to the existing wire rods production line.

The new rebar production line is designed to produce 250,000 ton/year rebars in various sizes ranging from 16.0 mm to 32.0 mm.

Alexandria Plant was actually designed to produce wire rods in various sizes ranging from 5.5 mm to 12.0 and to produce 40 meters per second. Egyptian Steel had contracted prominent companies such as Danieli and Sider Engineering to rehabilitate its production facilities. The production capacity of the plant is 300,000 tons per year of wire rods.

On December 1, 2015 Carris Reels, Inc. purchased the remaining interest in J. Hamelin Industries, a Canadian company, from Harold Stotland. Hamelin has been serving wire and cable customers throughout Canada and northeast USA for 77 years.  Combined, the new company has 140 years serving the wire and cable industry. The first half of Hamelin was purchased from the Hamelin family in 2008 and the companies have been working closely in areas of cultural and product/facility coordination.

Germany's Leoni has announced it has received its first order from Sweden's Volvo Car Corporation. The cable producer said the deal entails supplying wiring harnesses for future Volvo Cars models.

"We are happy that Volvo Car Corporation relies on our global footprint and high quality service", commented Dr. Frank Hiller, member of Leoni's Management Board. The first order consists of the production of several harnesses for underbody, tunnel, doors, roof and bumpers.

In 2014, Leoni won a contract to supply Volvo Cars' Chinese parent company, Geely with harnesses.

Prysmian Group, world leader in the energy and telecom cable systems industry, has been awarded a contract by Larsen & Toubro, to supply a new High Voltage underground cable system for Oman Electricity Transmission Company as part of a larger overall project known as OETC 143/2014 – 132 kV. The new cable system has the purpose to strengthen the power supply to the city of Salalah.

Prysmian is responsible for the design, engineering and production of a new HV underground cable transmission line between Saada Grid Station and Lilo that includes 85 km of 132 kV XLPE insulated cable. The project will be completed by the end of June 2016.
