Hawaiki Submarine Cable LP, the New Zealand owner and developer of Hawaiki submarine cable system, has selected Alaska Communications as its landing and operating partner in Oregon. 

Hawaiki will land its proposed 14,000 km trans-Pacific cable between Australia, New Zealand, Hawaii and the U.S. West Coast in Pacific City, Oregon.

Following the completion of the marine survey of the 4,000 km segment between Pacific City and Honolulu, Hawaiki has achieved another key milestone of the system deployment by securing its Oregon operations through a Landing Party Agreement with Alaska Communications.

Nexans Morocco to Set up Plant Near A...

Morocco’s leading company in wiring systems and electrical equipment, Nexans Morocco, will invest around €12 million to set up a wire producing plant near Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire.

The plant to cover 30,000 square meters will be operational by 2018. The factory will produce electric wires to be used in residential constructions and office buildings, as well as low and medium voltage cables and electric stations and transformers.

RYKER BASE PRIVATE LIMITED, a joint venture of Polycab Wires and Cables and Trafigura, India, has placed an order with SMS group for the supply of a CONTIROD®CR-3500 line.

The line for the casting and rolling of wire rod in a single process will have a production capacity of 35 tons of cast and rolled copper wire rod per hour. Commissioning of the CONTIROD® line at the JV’s new plant in the Indian state of Gujarat is scheduled for the first quarter of 2018.

On the CONTIROD® CR-3500, RYKER will produce predominantly ETP copper wire rod (Electrolytic Tough Pitch) as starting material for its own cable production.

Corning Inc. says growing demand for optical fiber in communications networks is behind plans for a $30 million expansion of its optical cable plant in Hickory. The company also announced a similar sized expansion of another plant in Winston-Salem.

Altogether, the company will create at least 205 new jobs and bring new investment of $83.5 million in the state over the next five years, according to an announcement from the office of Gov. Pat McCrory.  If Corning meets its hiring and investment promises, it's eligible for $1.93 million in state Job Development Investment Grants.

ABB has won orders worth over $85 million from leading Canadian utility Hydro-Québec (HQ) to upgrade its 800-kilovolt (kV) air-insulated switchgear (AIS) substations and transmission grid with state-of-the-art circuit breakers, power transformers and shunt reactors. The upgrade is driven by the increasing demand for power and the need to integrate new sources of renewable energy.
