Bekaert and ArcelorMittal have reached an agreement on the integration of Bekaert's currently wholly-owned subsidiary in Sumaré (Brazil) into the BMB (Belgo Mineira Bekaert Artefatos de Arame Ltda) partnership.

In line with the shareholding structure of the BMB joint venture, ArcelorMittal will be the majority shareholder (55.5%) of the steel cord entity in Sumaré and Bekaert will hold the remaining shares (44.5%).

The transaction is subject to customary closing conditions and is expected to be completed in the second quarter of 2017.

The first of North America’s two longest submarine electricity cables has arrived in Atlantic Canada onboard the cable laying vessel the Skagerrak. Integral to Emera’s Maritime Link Project, these cables each measure 170 km and weigh 5,500 tonnes – combined, the two cables weigh more than the Eiffel Tower. The first cable was manufactured in Halden, Norway, while the second cable, which is expected to arrive in mid-May, was manufactured in Futtsu, Japan.

The Spanish and Brazilian governments have teamed up to lay an undersea cable in the Atlantic Ocean to offer fast online and cloud services to citizens of both countries by 2019, underscoring efforts to rout communications outside North America.

The EllaLink subsea cable will connect to data centers in Madrid and São Paulo, as well as in Lisbon, using shielded fiber rings, officials said on Monday. The cable will also connect the archipelagoes of Madeira, Spain's Canary Islands and Africa's Cape Verde along the route, they added.

Auburn's AIM Group has completed its largest investment to date, pumping $6.4 million as part of a group of investors into an Atlanta-based fiber optic company.

AIM Group, along with Fidelis Capital and Bonaventure Capital, completed an $8.9 million equity purchase of Deep Fiber Solutions.
