Advanced Digital Cable Inc. plans to expand its wire and cable production facility in Blairsville, Ga., adding 65 jobs.

ADC, which currently employs 70 people at its 140,000-square-foot facility in Blairsville, said Tuesday it will invest $15 million to add 100,000 square feet to its existing facility and nearly double the factory staff.

"This expansion will enable ADC to better serve our customer base by giving us the capacity to increase the volume of our current product lines made in Blairsville," Steve Payne, president of ADC, said in a statement today.

TELE-FONIKA Kable is acquiring subsea umbilicals and power cables designer and manufacturer JDR Cable Systems.

TFKable manufactures 25,000 types of wires and cables, with six production facilities across Europe and sales offices globally. The company, based in Poland, employs more than 3,000 people and operates a cable waste recycling department in Poland.

The two companies have collaborated previously, with TFKable supplying water-blocked power cores for JDR’s cable and umbilical systems.

JDR says its complex subsea systems, used to power and control their offshore operations, will enhance the range of cable solutions TFKable can provide to its customers.

Japanese steelmaker Kobe Steel has announced that its Chinese affiliate company, Kobe Special Steel Wire Products (Pinghu) Company (or KSP), has started up its new pickling equipment. Based in Pinghu, Zhejiang Province, KSP processes special steel wire rod into cold heating quality (CHQ) steel wire.

The new equipment increases production capacity to about 4.9kt metric tons per month, from 3.5kt metric tons per month. Kobe Steel originally announced the 1.3 billion-yen capital investment plan on10 November 2015.

Central Wire Industries (CWI) will be stopping the manufacturing portion of its wire production business in Erin due to the high cost of power.

CEO and president Paul From said manufacturing of stainless steel and nickel alloy wire products will be relocated to two of its U.S. facilities and its Perth, Ontario facility, meaning 20 to 25 people will be out of jobs in Erin.

VBMS Orders Tekmar CPS Units for East...

Cable protection specialist Tekmar Energy has been awarded a contract by VBMS to supply its 7th generation of TekLink Cable Protection Systems (CPSs), bellmouths and cover disks for ScottishPower Renewables’ East Anglia ONE offshore wind farm.

In January 2017, VBMS won a contract of around EUR 100 million for the supply, installation and burial, as well as termination and testing of 102 66kV inter-array cables.

VBMS has awarded contracts on the project to both Tekmar and JDR Cables, both based in the North East of England, who will supply the CPSs and 66 kV inter-array power cables, respectively.
