Sterlite Power Targeting $4 Billion I...

Sterlite Power, which won orders to build power transmission lines in Brazil last year, is mulling an investment of USD 4 billion in energy projects in Brazil by 2022.

Looking for better returns and a wide range of opportunities for investments in Brazil, Sterlite Power's idea is to grow rapidly in the country and establish its headquarters in Sao Paulo as a base for future expansion.

"We are already committed to USD 1 billion (in projects), and we are open to expanding this three or four times over the next three or four years," Sterlite Group CEO Pratik Agarwal said in a statement.

JSW Steel has acquired Aferpi, an Italian steelmaker, for a cash consideration of 55mn euros (Rs441cr). The acquisition also includes stake purchase in Aferpi who is a maker of specialty long steel products. The company's plant consists of a rail mill (0.32mtpa), a bar mill (0.4mtpa) and a wire rod mill (0.6mtpa). The plant also has a captive port and steel ball mill that are part of the acquisition. Aferpi specializes in producing high-quality long steel products such as rails, wire rods and hot rolled bars. The company supplies high-speed rails to major railway networks in Europe. Nexans Makes Final Cable Delivery to ...

Nexans has completed a six-year project to design, manufacture, supply and install approximately 100 km of subsea high voltage direct current (HVDC) cable and accessories for Nalcor Energy’s Strait of Belle Isle Marine Cable Crossing in Newfoundland and Labrador, Canada. The project, which now connects Labrador with the island of Newfoundland, reached its conclusion when Nexans delivered the final 2.3 km length of cable that will provide a spare ready for use.

Warrington based cable firm Volex has announced it is to acquire a Slovakian firm in a deal worth £15m. Volex makes cables for the telecoms industry, power tools, computers, lawnmowers, hedge trimmers and other consumer goods.

The firm has announced the acquisition of Silcotec Europe and has also announced a conditional placing to raise £36m through the issue of 48,000,000 new ordinary shares at 25 pence each. Prime Minister Shahid Khaqan Abbasi witnessed signing of agreements between Power Division of Pakistan and State Grid Corporation of China, for construction of 878 kilometres 600 KV HVDC  Bipole Transmission Line from Matiari to Lahore.
