Barrday Inc., a major player in the composite market, and Arkema announce the creation of a joint venture to manufacture and market carbon fiber and specialty polymer tapes for the growing oil and gas industrial market.

The new venture, to be named Barrflex® TU, will supply the most efficient thermoplastic composite solutions to the various players of the oil and gas industrial markets. Danieli Rebar Line In Ramos Arizpe, M...

Italy-based equipment maker Danieli has announced that its 500,000 tons per year flexible rolling mill for bars and light sections installed at the Ramos Arizpe, Mexico, mill of Deacero began operating Sept. 7, 2018.

The company credits “perfect teamwork between [the] Deacero and Danieli teams” for bringing the production line to life after 20 months of project execution and construction and less than one month of cold commissioning activity.

Three days after its hot startup, the mill was rolling at 70 percent of its maximum capacity (including a four strands slitting process), “which will lead to a very fast rump-up learning curve,” says Danieli.

Five companies have expressed interest in buying Usha Martin’s steel business, the company has announced.  The five — JSW Steel, Tata Steel, Liberty House, Kalyani and Vedanta — have signed non-disclosure agreements (NDAs) in this regard, while they do their due-diligence.

Once the offers are made, it would be evaluated by an independent committee set up by Usha Martin’s board of directors. Usha Martin’s board approved the sale of the steel business, aimed at reducing debt. Usha Martin was earlier looking to sell its wire and wire ropes business. However, a change in market conditions prompted the company to look at sale of the steel business.
