February 16th 2018, an agreement was reached between Axjo Plastic AB in Sweden and Windak AB. Axjo and Windak both focus on the cable industry and have co-operated for a long time. Now they are taking another step - which means greater benefits for the customers.

Windak is a privately owned Swedish company that started in 1994. Today they are a world leading manufacturer of cable industry machines. Axjo Plastic AB and Windak AB have signed an agreement in which Axjo Plastic acquires 24% of Windak. The acquisition is in Windak Holding AB and the sister companies Windak AB, Windak Inc, Windak Australia and Windak OU in Estonia.

Subsea 7 Acquires Cable Lay Business ...

Subsea 7 is to acquire cable lay business Siem Offshore Contractors, as well as the Siem Aimery and Siem Moxie vessels, to expand its presence in the renewables sector.

The deal, which is subject to competition clearance in Germany, is priced at an initial consideration of €140m.  The acquisition includes the entire issued share capital of Siem Offshore Contractors, which has about 100 employees. 

Array cable lay vessel Siem Aimery and support ship Siem Moxie are owned by Siem Offshore Rederi, which together with Siem Offshore Contractors are wholly owned subsidiaries of Siem Offshore.

Gerdau Sells Beaumont Mill To Optimus...

Gerdau SA has entered into a definitive agreement with Optimus Steel to sell its Beaumont wire rod mill and Beaumont Wire Products and Carrollton Wire Products in Texas for $92.5 million, the Brazil-based steelmaker announced. The Beaumont steel mill has melt capacity of around 700,000 tons per year and rolling capacity of 800,000 tpy, according to a recent industry director. The mill produces wire rod and coiled rebar. Beaumont Wire Products and Carrollton Wire Products includes a wire mesh mill, while the latter supplies industrial wire into the greater US southern region, according to a statement from Optimus Steel. Cade, the Brazilian antitrust regulation agency, has approved with restrictions the acquisition of steelmaker Votorantim Siderurgia (VSA) by ArcelorMittal, said a report. The deal will boost ArcelorMittal Brazil's crude steel production to 5.6 million tonnes per year (tpy) and rolled steel capacity to 5.4 million tpy, added the S&P Global Platts report. The acquisition will enable ArcelorMittal to become the largest long steel producer in Brazil, Jefferson De Paula, ArcelorMittal’s president for Central and South American longs operations, was quoted as saying in the report. Mexichem, S.A.B. de C.V. announced that it has acquired Sylvin Technologies Inc., a niche PVC compounds manufacturer based in Denver, Pennsylvania for an Enterprise Value of $39 million based on a debt free cash free valuation. Sylvin is expected to have total sales of $29 million for the full year of 2017. It has a 30-year history of serving a broad range of industries including: wire and cable, electrical, industrial, automotive, medical and food products.

Aurubis Buys Codelco's Shares In Deut...

Aurubis AG, Europe's biggest copper smelter, annouinced it has agreed to take 100 per cent control of German copper wire and rod maker Deutsche Giessdraht by acquiring the 40 per cent stake held by Chile's Codelco.

Aurubis had held 60 per cent of Deutsche Giessdraht and Codelco held the remainder through German unit Codelco Kupferhandel GmbH.

The agreement will require the approval of German competition authorities, Aurubis said. The parties have agreed not to release the transaction price.

Deutsche Giessdraht produces about 240,000 tonnes of continuous cast wire rod copper rod annually and has about 110 employees at its plant in Emmerich.

The parent company of Winchester Interconnect acquired C&M Corp., a maker of wire and cable for industrial, medical and military uses that operates in a Killingly facility totaling 150,000 square feet of space.

Winchester Interconnect has its headquarters in South Norwalk and is owned by Snow Phipps Group, which acquired C&M from the Lexington, Mass.-based private equity firm Watermill Group for an undisclosed amount. Watermill had bought C&M in 2008 from the company’s founding family.

Corning Expands Fiber Optic Business ...

Corning Inc. will spend $900 million to buy a 3M unit, a move to complement and expand its offerings to the fiber optic market.  The company announced it is acquiring the Austin, Texas-based 3M Communications Markets unit.

Corning's takeover will add about $400 million in sales to Corning's revenues and 7 cents to 9 cents per share in annual earnings by 2019, the company said in a statement accompanying the announcement.
