InnoVites B.V. announces that they will integrate their Cable ERP software with CableMES, which is based on the Wonderware MES platform. This will further complement the InnoVites offering to the wire and cable industry and provide customers with optimal control of their manufacturing processes. The MES integration is a joint innovation of InnoVites and their partner Cimteq. The result is a comprehensive and fully integrated software solution for the cable industry that provides end-to-end support for business processes in the cable industry.

This innovation will be launched at the Wire Düsseldorf fair in April this year.

What is new?

InnoVites B.V. (www.innovites.com) announces that they will integrate their Cable ERP software with the Wonderware Manufacturing Execution System (MES).

InnoVites will develop the integration to Wonderware MES in cooperation with its partner Cimteq, who is a Wonderware System Integrator.

Cimteq develops CableMES which is an out-of-the-box MES solution for the wire and cable industry, based on the Wonderware platform.

Both InnoVites and Cimteq are software companies that develop solutions exclusively for the wire and cable industry. Dozens of wire and cable manufacturers around the globe use the InnoVites and Cimteq software solutions daily to support and enhance their business processes e.g. in design, manufacturing, planning, sourcing and sales.

What’s great about MES?

MES makes a huge step change in manufacturing performance, resulting in reduced material utilization, reduced scrap and rework, improved productivity, and higher quality products at a much reduced cost of quality.  It enables manufacturers to make quality products first time, every time in the quickest possible time.

What’s great about CableMES?

Cimteq’s CableMES solution combines the power and versatility of Wonderware's toolkit with a quick start-up based on pre-configured components and the expertise to implement them.  The solution provides for a quick return on investment as well as for a sustainable investment with a flexible, powerful, globally supported platform from a proven supplier, and an architecture that inherently supports upgrades and customisations.

What’s great about the integration between InnoVites Cable ERP and CableMES?

The integration between the InnoVites Cable ERP and CableMES will synchronize the data that is captured in the CableMES application with the InnoVites Cable ERP system.

This ensures that the latest production progress information is available online throughout the company. The improved transparency will lead to better decision making and improved customer satisfaction.

When is this innovation available for customers?

The integration to CableMES will be launched at the Wire Düsseldorf show, April 2014. Visit our booth at the Wire Düsseldorf for a demonstration. We would be happy to meet you and discuss how your company can benefit from the complete solution that InnoVites offers to the wire & cable industry.

Tell me more about MES?

Companies implement MES to achieve a step change in manufacturing performance. Benefits typically are reduced material utilization, reduced scrap and rework, improved productivity, and higher quality products at reduced cost of quality.  It enables manufacturers to make quality products first time, every time in the quickest possible time.

Traceability of production is another inherent aspect of MES.  MES uses barcode and RF transducers to track batches of cable drums and containers. Operators use badges to minimize administrative overhead while keeping track of all relevant transactions.

MES tracks the machine status and the quality of the product either through online sensors such as diameter gauges, length gauges, or offline equipment such as shadow graphs and automated measurement equipment.  MES also connects to sensors to track material utilisation, through loss-in-weight systems, and even electricity consumption.

Tracing and storing data against each batch is an essential aspect of obtaining and maintaining quality certification, however, the collected data has even greater value in aiding continuous improvement.  But before using the data in projects such as scrap reduction, the data needs to be conditioned to make it relevant to the task.  MES uses the vast library of Wonderware analytical tools to help managers and engineers make sense of raw data.  Tools like OEE, and SPC come as modules of the solution as well as other bespoke analysis tools.

Quick ROI of MES

The implementation of MES solutions typically provide a very quick return on investment.  This is because traditionally factory management and engineers do not close the loop of continuous improvement.  They rarely had accurate reliable data to validate their improvement efforts.  With MES, managers and engineers can close the loop with up to the minute information that demonstrates the success of their changes, or warns them of pending problems to enable them to adjust the process.

Some of the features and benefits of MES are listed below:

  • Material utilisation monitoring to help process engineers focus their efforts on the most effective material saving projects

  • OEE tracking to help planners produce accurate plans to avoid late delivery penalties, helps accurate customer quotation to ensure accurate, yet competitive pricing, and helps production to continually improve the process.

  • Quality tracking and traceability to ensure adherence to the cable design and the customer requirements hence avoiding costly mistakes that lead to scrap.

  • Length control to reduce over length and giveaway.

  • Work-In-Progress feedback to ERP and Scheduling systems to enable them to plan and cost production accurately.

  • None conformance alarms to identify a problem as soon as it happens in order to take action.  This is one of the most important ways to reduce scrap and rework.

  • Maintenance call-outs enables the maintenance department to act quickly to resolve any problems to reduce down time that can have serious impact on productivity.
