Tray cables have developed an excellent reputation for providing robust and reliable power and control connections for static automation applications on assembly lines, bottle filling, packaging machines or machine tools. However, the fast-moving automation sector now often calls for cables that can handle motion in several axes, severe acceleration and braking and a vast number of bending cycles. In most cases a standard tray cable wouldn’t cope. Nexans has responded by carrying out a major research and development program to create the new INTERCOND® Tray Cable range that combines the virtues of a tray cable with the dynamic capabilities of an advanced automation cable suitable f ...

Outokumpu announces an extension to its product portfolio. Outokumpu Ultra Alloy 825 is a titanium stabilized austenitic nickel-based alloy with an addition of copper. It is primarily used for processing equipment in the chemical and oil and gas industries due to its exceptional corrosion resistance against some acids as well as under so-called “sour service” conditions, i.e. in environments containing hydrogen sulfide.

Says Sandra Arman, Product Manager, Ultra range at Outokumpu: “Outokumpu stands out as the only major stainless steel company that can offer this nickel-based alloy in coils up to width of 1,500 mm, both hot and cold rolled. We are currently running qualifi ...

Maillefer IS Running Fast with Nonlin...

The efficiency of an optical cable manufacturing line can be improved significantly by increasing line speed. But to do so, the manufacturing process itself must be quite robust. It must withstand abnormalities and changes in the factory environment. Maillefer has taken several steps forward in bringing high speed capability to our customers, thanks to nonlinear modeling.

Triple speeds

In the loose tube process, excess fiber length (EFL) and post-shrinkage must stay under control during production. The loose tube properties play important role in final cable quality. When EFL is outside tolerances it can cause attenuation increase in temperature cycling. All these properties can be adjuste ...
